The idea behind the singularity receiver was the need for fast communication between two incredibly far points of space. One of the big problems experienced by the ancestors of the Archon when setting out to colonise distant planets and stars, was the sheer length of time it took for messages to be sent and received. The fastest messages could be sent at around twice the speed of light in the form of highly accelerated Neutrinos. This was still much too long a time sometimes though. At the peak of the communication crisis, it got to a point that scout craft were being used to relay information as messengers, despite the cost of this.

Then came the breakthrough needed. The Archon mastered the ability to create wormholes, bind them and force them to stabilise. The technology gave birth to the portals. The Archon could set two up to run on the same frequency, then walk between them, traversing impossible distances like it was walking into another room.

The art of portal technology has since been long lost by the Archon. The portal networks fell into disarray with the old empire. Now only isolated portals remain, often leading between worlds that have long since forgotten their true lineage. Only the sheer level of ingenuity in their design allows these few to continue to operate, long since they were lost, and often if one is found, it leads to ground breaking effects, and worlds colliding as they discover one another.

However... their legacy remains in the form of the singularity receiver. The Archon can no longer create wormholes or portals, but for one kind. This.

It works by the intensely powerful magnetic coils pulling their focal point of space apart. An energy field is channelled into this space, in an alternating wave at this focal point, until that point rips. The magnetic coils then hold this gap open. In the old days of portal technology the fine tuned energy field would open space to different coordinates, depending on the energy wavelength, intensity etc. Only one point can be opened now. it is not quite know where in space this point is, but it is a hub of communication now. Once the gap is open, the Archon can send their messages into it, and as long as the receiving end also has their own Singularity receiver on, they will instantly receive the signal, and communication. Due to the fact that if a singularity receiver is closed, any message sent to that ship would be lost, and need to be resent until it was open again, it is standard protocol to keep all singularity receivers active, at all times, unless the ship is docked at a larger ship, or otherwise. It is a highly complex system, handled purely by complicated computers, filtering out what signals are meant for what ship. If one was to find the point in space where all these mini wormholes open, they would be able to listen in on the entire Archon armada's communication. Though, experiments have been carried out by the Archon to try and work out the coordinates before, and wherever it is, has not a single star in sight of it. There are some who believe it doesn't even open to a point in space, but the void outside of it, though there is no true evidence of this. In any case, it is relatively impossible for anything to find the point, save for somehow working out how to construct a portal, and go to this point through it.

The device is around a foot in diameter, height and length, and the gap in the universe it creates is less than several nanometres wide.
the secret to how they communicate so eficiently despite the huge distances they might have to send signals across.

also, you might have noticed, i do have several of these gate portals in some of my other stories, and yes. they were used by ancient Archon. the shipwreck in the stories ( [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] ) is indeed an ancient Archon Vessel, a hubship, portable portals, to several worlds X3
